Recently, talks about a possible partnership between Apple and Meta regarding artificial intelligence (AI) technology have surfaced after the Wall Street Journal published a report.
However, soon after that, Bloomberg reported that Apple only considered this partnership back in March, when the company was looking for leading AI companies to integrate AI into its devices.

Apple, known for its strict privacy standards, found Meta’s privacy practices not up to its high expectations, which led to a quick end to their discussions in March.

Meta, the company behind popular platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, was keen on using Apple’s extensive reach to boost its own AI capabilities. However, Apple decided against integrating it’s technology into its devices. These two big tech companies have been rivals for many years in the race for AI.

Although Apple refused to integrate Llama, it is not shying away from AI. The company recently launched a new initiative called “Apple Intelligence” at its Worldwide Developers Conference in 2024. This new suite of AI features is set to make Apple devices smarter, using advanced AI to enhance how we interact with our iPhones, Macs, and iPads.

Instead of integrating Meta’s Llama into its devices, Apple has formed partnerships with AI leaders like OpenAI and plans to integrate the Gemini model in future. These collaborations fit well with Apple’s standards for privacy and technology, which may explain its reluctance to team up with this.

Apple and OpenAI collaboration is a huge step in the field of AI, however, it raised another controversy when Elon Musk expressed his concerns over this partnership.

Despite the setback with Apple, Meta isn’t stopping its push into AI. The company has introduced its AI chatbot to its largest user base in India through its own apps. This move shows Meta’s determination to advance its AI technologies independently.
